Like most good DIYers, I’m all about recycling. If I can make something pretty at the same time (and do it quickly), all the better. So when I ran across this seed starter idea over at Made, I was immediately taken. All you need is some shredded recycled paper, flower seeds, cookie cutters, and water. In a nutshell, you take shredded paper (I think newspaper would look really great) and wet it down, put it into cookie cutters (or just roll into a ball), and then sprinkle seeds on top. After the shapes dry, just plant them and watch them grow!

Over at Burda Style, there are pictures of a stunning dress made out of masking tape. Esther Boller created the dress using interfacing, a zipper, and more than 17 rolls of masking tape. The dress took over 80 hours to create and won a National Gold Medal in the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Of the dress, she said:
“I made this dress for the Scholastic Art and Writing competition. It’s made completely out of masking tape and let me just tell you that it was a bit of a sticky situation (haha pardon the pun, but I just couldn’t help myself). I was inspired by architecture and an empty butterfly chrysalis.”
You can read the entire interview with Boller about the dress here.
I just stumbled across an art installation (the first one below), which blew my mind. With a little research I found that the artist is Rashad Alakbarov from Azerbaijan. He makes “shadow paintings” by using ordinary objects and background lighting. The results are stunning.
I never know how to start these things. In a nutshell, I’m have a penchant for jewelry design and making pretty things. This blog will serve as my catalogue of inspiration. I will also be posting anything that I find pretty, inventive, clever, or just downright cool. In the meantime, allow me to plug my Etsy shop, Sunny Raven Designs (which I will be doing quite frequently). Here are a few of my favorite pieces for springtime:
Dusty Pink Rose Ring
Sunny Garden Necklace
Blue and Cream Garden Hair Pin Trio
